Remember and Celebrate Veterans Day in Oswego

Find out what ceremonies and events are happening in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Veterans Day this year is Monday, Nov. 11. 

But there's no reason that you can't take time this weekend to remember our Veterans. 

Little White School House Veterans' Remembrance

Join Oswego’s Little White School Museum as it honors the community's military veterans during their annual Veterans’ Day Remembrance this Saturday through Monday, Nov. 9, 10, and 11 at the museum, 72 Polk Street (Jackson at Polk Street), Oswego.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Monday and 12 noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

The exhibit features dozens of rarely seen military artifacts selected from the museum's collections by assistant museum director Bob Stekl assisted by museum manager Tina Heidrich, museum board member Stephanie Just, and museum volunteer Darlene Stekl.

Featured are uniforms and equipment used by soldiers from the Oswego Township area during World Wars I and II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, and Iraq and Afghanistan; along with photographs of area male and female Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Air Force personnel on the annual Wall of Honor.

In addition to the special exhibit in the building’s main room, its permanent military exhibit in the community museum, telling the story of the area’s military history from the Civil War through the wars of the 21st Century, will also be available for viewing. 

Oswego Veterans Memorial

Have you visited Oswego's Veterans Memorial before? It's located next to the Oswego Public Library at Main and Jefferson in the Veterans Memorial Plaza, which was dedicated in November 2002. 

The memorial features an eternal flame dedicated to all who have served in the U.S. armed services.

Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall

The Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall is currently at West Aurora High School and can be viewed until dusk on Monday.

On Monday, Nov. 11, there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at 2 p.m, and at dusk there will be a closing ceremony, which includes a candlelight vigil and a final march.

Also at Aurora West is the Healing Field, which features thousands of American flags that pay tribute to all U.S. military men and women, It will be on display through Nov. 13.

Wreath Across America Promotion

Jersey Mike's Subs is participating in Wreath Across America this Veterans Day weekend. Wreath Across America lays hundreds of thousands of remembrance wreaths at the headstones of the nation's veteran's during the holiday season.

From Nov. 9 - 11 with every donation to Wreath Across America, Jersey Mike's will give you a free cookie. Find out all about it here. 

American Legion Ceremony

American Legion Post #675 in Oswego will hold their annual Veteran's Day ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11. The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the Veteran's Memorial, Main and Jefferson in downtown Oswego. 

After the ceremony attendees are welcome to adjourn to the American Legion Post 675 for lunch.
