A massive tornado touched down Monday in Moore, Okla., leaving a reported 51 people dead, including at least seven children. Images show fires burning and buildings ruined for as far as the eye can see. Many Americans are wondering how they can help the residents of this devastated town just outside Oklahoma City. Below is a list of how you can help right now, according to the Huffington Post: The Oklahoma City Red Cross will open shelters as first responders assess damage. The organization says the best way to help is to donate at RedCross.org or text REDCROSS to 90999. The Salvation Army has mobilized a number of emergency relief services in Oklahoma, including Moore, to dispense food, hydration and emotional support to first responders …
Both Wooley Road and Minkler Road will see decreased speed zones at certain parts of the roadway.
Have you checked your speed lately when you’re cruising down Wooley Road or Minkler Road? The Oswego Police have, and with the Village of Oswego board' vote of approval portions of those roads will see a speed decrease. Minkler Road The speed limit on Minkler road 1,000 feet north of Hunt Club Drive and 1,000 feet south of Country Drive will lower to 40 mph from 45 mph. Barbara Annette (Munson) Loomis, 83 years, of Oswego, IL, peacefully passed away on May 16, 2013 at Bickford Cottages of Oswego. She was born July 28, 1929 in Waltham, IL, the daughter of the late Arthur and Clara Munson. Barbara grew up on a farm in Waltham, IL and graduated from Mendota High School. She was united in marriage to Richard Loomis on April 7, 1956. She and her husband moved to Oswego in 1958 where they raised their family. She was a member of the Oswego Presbyterian Church. Living like a movie star for a week, Bridget Brown of Darien had a small part in a movie with Miley Cyrus. Brown also has her own consulting business, works as a dental assistant’s assistant and has many more jobs in life few of us would ever conquer. Having Down syndrome, the 27-year-old woman is considered to be disabled, but you would never know by the full life she leads. Brown was the first person with a disability included in her school district and is a strong advocate of inclusion. Among her dislikes is hearing someone be insulted. "Don’t call people retarded," Brown says. Large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes are all possible.
Get ready for some storms. The storm system that dropped large hail and tornadoes on parts of Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma is now headed toward Illinois. The National Weather Service has placed most of Illinois in the "slight risk" category for severe weather on Monday and Tuesday. The main threats on both days will be damaging winds and large hail. The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center noted in its technical discussions that isolated tornadoes are also possible on Monday and Tuesday. "The most violent storms will ignite during the afternoon and evening hours as daytime heating causes instability," Accuweather.com Meteorologist Meghan Evans wrote in her forecast. IMO, a 35 mph speed limit extending 2000 ft past the Fire Station is unnecessary. Kids don't walk past the Fire Station. We're talking farm fields & the occasional biker. Changing the limit to 35 mph for 2000 ft is could help the Oswego police meet their ticket quota, though.
