Waubonsie Valley 51, Oswego East 30. Warriors shake off sluggish win over Metea Valley, roll to fifth straight regional crown.
The Hot Read: Waubonsie Valley scored the first seven points of the game in the first 1 minute 21 seconds of the first quarter and never looked back, rolling to its fifth consecutive regional title at the Class 4A Downers Grove South Regional Thursday. The lead swelled to 25-10 in the second quarter, but Oswego East cut the lead to 33-24 after three quarters. The Warriors then answered by scoring the first 12 points of the fourth quarter to put the game away. It was Oswego East’s first appearance in a regional championship game. Patch’s MVP: Waubonsie Valley sophomore Gratia Brooks dominated the post, tying Becky Williford for game-high scoring honors with 13 points, on 6-for-7 shooting from the field, and helped the Warriors to a 38-29 …

Oswego East 52, Downers Grove South 48. The Wolves upset the Mustangs on Tuesday to set up Thursday's regional-title showdown with Waubonsie Valley.
DOWNERS GROVE–Oswego East’s girls basketball team seemed to have the group to reach the program’s first-ever regional title game last season. When that group fell short, and graduated six key members, coach Nate Eimer couldn’t have envisioned that this would be that season. Turns out, the Wolves proved him wrong. Oswego East sprung a 52-48 upset on the seventh-seeded hosts from Downers Grove South in the regional semifinal Tuesday to set up the Wolves’ first-ever regional title game appearance. The 10th-seeded Wolves will face second-seeded Waubonsie Valley Thursday at 7:30 p.m. “It’s unbelievable,” Eimer said. “Who would have thought that we were going to lose six seniors that played a lot last year and this group would be the one that …

Wolves knock off Plainfield North in fifth-place game at Oswego East Winter Classic.
During the holiday season, shoppers are on the lookout for stocking stuffers. Arnesa Blair did a little bonus shopping on the basketball court. She stuffed the stat box in Oswego East's 58-50 girls basketball victory over Plainfield North on Thursday afternoon in the fifth-place game at the Oswego East Wolves Winter Classic. Blair scored 16 points to lead a balanced attack for East (10-5). She also had eight assists, six rebounds and two steals in a sparkling all-around performance. Three others scored in double figures as the Wolves capped their run in the tournament with back-to-back victories and secured a fifth-place finish. Ameera George scored 13 points, Brittney Glende had 12 and Kayla Boers chipped in 10. Boers also had 10 rebounds…

Glende's three-point shooting carries Wolves past Indians at Winter Classic.
Even after Tuesday’s loss knocked his team out of championship consideration, Oswego East coach Nate Eimer felt Wednesday’s game was huge for his program. In fact, Eimer said the matchup with Lemont was the Wolves' biggest game to date this season. The Wolves (9-5) appeared to get his message loud and clear as they went out and drubbed the Indians 51-22 to advance to the fifth-place contest of the Wolves Winter Classic at 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon against Plainfield North. “We thought this was our biggest game of the year,” said Eimer, whose team let a big early lead slip away the previous night to Downers Grove South. “We’ve been struggling with some close losses, so I think this was our biggest game and I thought it was a best …

Mustangs knock off Wolves to reach girls tourney semifinals at Oswego East.
Oswego East could not have asked for a better first quarter Tuesday night against Downers Grove South in quarterfinal action at the Wolves Winter Classic in Oswego. But unfortunately for the hosts, a 13-5 lead disappeared like magic in the second quarter, and then Christyl Thurman and the rest of the Downers Grove South Mustangs took things into their own hands from there. With Thurman scoring 14 points in the second half alone to finish with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds, the Mustangs wiped out that early deficit on their way to a 44-39 victory. With the win, 10-3 Downers South advances to Wednesday's 8 p.m. semifinal game against West Chicago. "I think the pressure at first got to us and we got a little scared," said…

Wolves knock off ACC in first round of girls basketball holiday tourney.
The score may have been tied at the half, but the Oswego East girls basketball team was not thrilled with the way it had played for the first 16 minutes Monday night. In first-round action of the Wolves Winter Classic, Oswego East shot poorly for two quarters and allowed Aurora Central Catholic’s Ashley Wilk and Katilyn Rosa to control the glass. But inspired play in the second half carried the fourth-seeded Wolves (8-4) to a 51-41 victory over the Chargers (7-6). Senior Brittney Glende sank a pair of 3-pointers while scoring all eight of her points in the third quarter, which ended with Oswego East on top 38-32. “This is a great win coming off the (holiday) weekend,” Glende said. “We were off in the beginning, but we picked up our …

Arneasa Blair's 23 points, Kylee Jackson's 10 rebounds and Brittney Glende's clutch 3-pointer lead Wolves past Huskies.
Oswego East's Brittney Glende knows what it takes to battle back. The senior suffered a concussion in a game earlier this year, and early in Saturday's game she wasn't able to do much in the way of scoring points. But when she finally did deliver, it was her 3-pointer that helped the Wolves overcome a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit and beat Naperville North in overtime, 66-62. "She's mentally tough and she also hit a huge shot for us last night (against Oswego)," Oswego East coach Nate Eimer said. "Tonight she struggled, but I would want the ball in her hands even if she's 0-for-20 and it's the end of the ballgame because she'll take it and knock it down." Oswego East (7-3) trailed 51-44 with less than seven minutes remaining when …

Arneasa Blair's offense, defense lead Oswego East to Crosstown Challenge victory over Oswego.
OSWEGO—Three days after a 33-point loss to Southwest Prairie Conference leader Minooka High School, Oswego East got back on track during a 58-42 win over visiting Oswego in the first installment of this season's Crosstown Challenge on Friday. Oswego East led wire to wire to run its record to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the SPC. "What I loved about this group was Wednesday was the best practice we've had this year and Thursday was the second-best practice of the year for us," Oswego East coach Nathan Eimer said. "Tonight, that showed." "Coach talked about being mentally strong," Oswego East junior guard Arneasa Blair said. "During practice this week, we went after each other. We started fast and finished strong tonight. That's all that matters …
