Oswego East Students Awarded Gold and Silver Keys in Scholastic Art Competition

Four Oswego East students earned awards for artwork entered in a regional competition.

At the Regional Competition hosted on Jan. 26 at Downers Grove North High School several Oswego East High School students walked away with the honor of a golden key, silver key or honorable mention.  Golden Key award winners will be going on to Nationals to compete for Gold, Silver, and Silver with distinction medals.  If students place, they will be awarded at Carnegie Hall in New York City in May. All of the artwork will be open to the public at Downers Grove North High School from Feb. 10 to Feb. 16.  Check out the Oswego High School Art Take a look through the slide show of artwork by Golden Key recipients. Photo Slideshow: Oswego Students Artwork Showcased at Joliet Junior College Art Exhibit

Oswego High School student Thomas Mereness was recognized with an Award of Excellence.

Oswego and Oswego East High School student artwork was recently showcased at the 2012 Joliet Junior College Area High School Art Exhibition.  The exhibition was held at the Laura A. Sprague Art Gallery. This exhibition consisted of a two-part jury format.  First, student’s artwork was selected by Oswego visual art instructors; only five pieces of artwork were chosen from each school.  Next, students work was juried by the full-time Joliet Junior College (JJC) studio art faculty in various categories.  Those found deserving by JJC jurors earned the Award of Excellence.  Seventeen area students were recognized with an Award of Excellence for their outstanding achievement, including one from Oswego High School, Thomas Mereness. Oswego Hosts Annual Fine Art Fair This Weekend

Downtown the place to be for artworks from across the Midwest.

On any given day Oswego’s downtown Main Street is bustling with people and cars visiting the library, the local eateries and the shops. On Saturday and Sunday expect it to be even busier with the addition of tables and tents brimming with hundreds of pieces of artwork as Oswego hosts its eighth annual Fine Art Fair. “We have a lot of really great new and returning artists,” said Michele Bergeron, organizer of the fair. “There will certainly be something for everyone.” Among the local artists participating are members of the Kendall Arts Guild.
