Yorkville Man Sentenced to 4 Years in Fatal DUI Crash

A 22-year-old Yorkville man was sentenced to 4 years in prison Thursday for being on heroin and texting during the crash near Silver Springs State Park that killed a Plano man. Judge John Barsanti urged Bryan C. James, who also was injured in the accident, to use the memory of Stephen Cockriel to turn his life around. James, of the 300 block of Illini Drive, pleaded guilty Dec. 29 to aggravated driving under the influence and reckless homicide in connection with the April 26 accident. Before issuing the sentence Thursday, Barsanti pondered whether James was truly remorseful for his actions, which testimony had indicated came during a struggle with drug addiction and after two misdemeanor court cases. “If you’re that kind of man, this will …
