Oswego Lights Village Christmas Tree

Village president asks everyone to help out others around them who might be less fortunate this holiday season.

During the annual Christmas walk on Dec. 7, the festivities kicked off with the lighting of the village Christmas tree. Village president Brian LeClercq had an assist from the Borden family, whose house burned down earlier this year.   “They don’t have a tree or a place to celebrate. We want to help them light this beautiful tree and make sure they understand that Oswego is the greatest place to live and we’re a great community,” said LeClercq. Does anyone know why the tree next to Oswego Community Bank is no longer being used as the village Christmas tree? It was much larger and nicer, but I'm assuming that its location next to Rte. 34 made it difficult for traffic control when all the people who showed up suddenly wanted to go downtown. Perhaps it was a safety issue.   more ›

From tree lighting to the jingle bell jog, this weekend in Oswego is full of activities.

If family fun for the holidays is on your Christmas wish list, you won’t want to miss this coming weekend in Oswego. The fun starts at 5:00 pm on Friday with the community tree lighting ceremony on the downtown corner of Main & Jackson streets.  The ceremony serves as the official kick off of Christmas Walk 2012.  Between the hours of 5:00 and 9:00 pm you can be entertained by various musical groups, take a Belgium draft horse hayride, enjoy a spin on the Holiday Train, grab a bite to eat at one or more of the numerous food stands and restaurants, do a new craft project, see a display of nativity sets from around the world, take your own picture with Santa and watch a silent decorated fire truck parade. Annual Cookie Walk Tins Available

Cookie walk will take place in downtown Oswego on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Join the downtown merchants for the Annual Cookie Walk on Saturday, December 8th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This year, the Cookie Walk tins will be available at The Marmalade Tree, Floral Expressions and Gifts, Second Born Consignment and Village Grind for $6.95 each. On the day of the event, if there are Cookie Walk tins available, they can be purchased at the Holiday Country Market at the old Fire Station on Main Street. A portion of the proceeds from the tin sales will go to the Kendall County Food Pantry. There are a limited amount of tins, so please purchase them early! Guests who purchase this year’s Cookie Walk tin can visit participating downtown merchants to fill their holiday tins with freshly baked cookies. For more information, …

Increased Traffic Congestion and Delays Expected for Christmas Walk

Oswego Police advise alternate routes through the downtown area on Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8.

Editor's Note: The following is from a press release issued by the Oswego Police Department:   The Village of Oswego Police Department is reminding the public to expect increased traffic congestion and delays in Oswego Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8 due to Christmas Walk activities. Motorists should expect delays in particular while traveling on US Route 34 through the downtown area and near Douglas Road. Delays on Madison, Washington and Main Streets in the downtown Oswego area are also expected. Village of Oswego Hosts Annual Christmas Walk and Activities

Editor's Note: The following is a press release provided by the Village of Oswego: The Village of Oswego invites you to the annual Christmas Walk Celebration, held on Friday to Sunday, Dec. 7-9 throughout Oswego. The festivities kick-off on Friday, Dec. 7, from 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Oswego.  The night will begin with the tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. At 7 p.m., the Silent, Illuminated Fire Truck parade will make its way down Main Street. Fire trucks from Oswego and other local fire departments will participate in this annual event. Village Christmas Tree Placement Decided for 2012

The annual lighting of the Christmas tree will continue with the tree on Main Street.

The Village of Oswego Christmas tree will remain at the corner of Jackson and Main for 2012. The village board discussed the placement of the annual Christmas tree at Tuesday night’s committee of the whole meeting and where the best location would be. At an earlier meeting in September, trustee Gail Johnson expressed interest in having a larger tree for the village and the possibility of anyone willing to donate one. The village had used a corner lot at Jackson and Main where they moved a tree four years ago for the purpose of the tree lighting. The property is not owned by the village, but they had been given permission to use it until the land is sold or developed. At the meeting, Community Relations Manager Michele Bergeron said no one …
