Where to Dine Al Fresco in Oswego

Patch has picked its favorite local restaurant with outdoor seating.

The weather has been lovely lately. And since the rain has stayed away, we figured it was high time to go out to lunch or dinner and sit outside. In Oswego, we like Firehouse Pizza and Pub for its outdoor seating.

Village Board Approves Reimbursement for Firehouse Pizza and Pub Improvement Projects

Only one dissenting vote was cast in approving both reimbursements for the projects, which will cost about $18,000 and $6,000 each.

In a 4-1 vote the Village of Oswego board approved reimbursing Firehouse Pizza and Pub for the improvement projects of a new water main line and fixes to the retaining wall. The Village was approached by Firehouse Pizza earlier in the year seeking reimbursements for projects on their property, located at 65 W. Washington in downtown Oswego. Several trustees stated that they “felt uncomfortable” with providing financial assistance to the business due to previous issues of bill repayment, treatment of staff and work orders. “My concern is that we are not holding a business accountable,” said Johnson on Tuesday night “My vote on this will be no for the hundreds of businesses that follow our rules and procedures.” Firehouse Pizza was …

Jane, Smarts said the people who "run" the town so that wouldn't be the trustees. They may vote on things and make some policy but they have very little influence on what really goes on. 10 years in Oswego still makes you an outsider, especially if you moved to one of the newer subdivisions during the construction boom. Some Village Trustees 'Uncomfortable' in Reimbursing Projects for Firehouse Pizza and Pub

Restaurant owners have asked for funds for water main changes and for service to a retaining wall.

The Oswego Village Board will be voting at its next meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 5, on whether to provide reimbursement for two separate projects for the Firehouse Pizza and Pub, after much discussion at its last meeting. The Village was approached by Firehouse Pizza and Pub, which opened in December in downtown Oswego, for reimbursement for waterline improvement, as well as replacement of a retaining wall at the village-owned building.  Police Chief Dwight Baird, who served as interim village administrator at the time Firehouse Pizza originally approached the village about occupying the space at 65 W. Washington St. in September 2011 spoke on the matter at the board's Jan. 22 meeting.  Want free local news in your inbox every morning? Sign up…

Singlemom kindly explain this one. How can they only be paying one dollar a month in rent? I'm still trying to figure out when the village became a lending institution.   more ›

Oswego Firehouse Pizza and Pub Officially Opens

A limited menu will be served through this week for staff to acclimate.

The smell of pepperoni, garlic and pizza sauce is wafting through the air at 65 W. Washington St. in downtown Oswego with the opening of the long-awaited Firehouse Pizza & Pub. Owner Billy Lumino said the restaurant had a soft opening on Monday for friends and family and during the Christmas Walk on Friday with a limited menu to ease the staff into operation. “We did not want to overwhelm them and ultimately create a bad experience for our customers,” said Lumino. The restaurant will switch to its full menu next week. The Firehouse had been slated for an earlier opening in late 2011, but was delayed due to the issues in the sewer system. The opening date was then moved to March 2012, but was also delayed. Lumino, who owns Firehouse with …

Opening of Downtown Pizza Place Delayed

Issues with sewers have pushed back the opening of Firehouse Pizza & Pub.

The owner of Firehouse Pizza & Pub said this week he’s now shooting for a March opening for the spot that will occupy the village-owned building at 65 W. Washington St. The restaurant was originally slated to open late last year, but Billy Lumino said problems with the sewer system around the building have caused some delays. Tradesmen are working this week to finish the interior work on the building, which received exterior rehabbing last year. “We’re hoping for a soft-opening around March 1,” Lumino said. “We’ve got five different trades in there this week, and we’re making a lot of progress.” Lumino said he and his partner and cousin, Dominic Fecarotta, also are in the process of hiring employees and hope to bring on 15 to 20 workers. …

What happened? We were very excited about having a new restaurant in downtown Oswego but every time we drive by it it looks like not much progress is being made. Are you still planning on opening?   more ›

Downtown Pizza Place Gets Final OK

Cousins to get $130,000 from revolving loan fund.

The Oswego Village Board paved the way for Firehouse Pizza and Pub on Tuesday night. In a 6-0 vote, trustees approved a lease with an option to buy for the village-owned building at 65 W. Washington St., which is the proposed location for the eatery. The board also approved a loan of $130,000 for the restaurant’s owners from the village’s revolving loan fund at a rate of 3 percent over 10 years. The owners, Billy Fecarotta Lumino, and his cousin Dominic Fecarotta recently presented the village with a more detailed business plan explaining their concept for the eatery. The restaurant will have a firehouse theme and will serve New York-style pizza. The cousins also have plans to host local fundraisers once the business is established. They …

This is exactly what Oswego needs. It's impressive that these 2 men are putting there confidence, money, and time into what looks like a rough piece of property. The concept is genious. The optimism is envious. Opps, did I spell that wrog? LOL. I saw the article in The Beacon-News what Terry Michels qouted. What a joke. Is this a spelling bee? On the Agenda: Village Board Meeting Tuesday Night

Here's a look at what's on tap for tonight.

The Oswego Village Baord will meet Tuesday night beginning at 6 p.m. with its Committee of the Whole Meeting at Village Hall. The regular meeting will follow directly afterward. Here’s a look at some of the highlights on the agenda:

Pizza Place Headed for Downtown

Firehouse Pizza and Pub could be open by year's end.

It seems the dining scene in downtown Oswego may be getting a boost. The Village Board is set to consider at its Tuesday meeting an application for money from a village revolving loan fund for Firehouse Pizza and Pub proposed for 65 W. Washington St. Meanwhile, owners of an undisclosed Mexican restaurant also have been in talks with the village for a possible location at the old Village Hall building at 113 Main St., which like the Washington Street address, is still owned by the village. “We’re trying to make downtown Oswego a destination point,” said interim village manager Dwight Baird. “The village trustees are taking that seriously and staff are doing everything we can to back them up on that.” The owners of Firehouse Pizza and Pub — …
