All donations will go to the Kendall County Food Pantry.
The National Association of Letter Carriers through the United States Postal Service is holding a national food drive to support local food pantries. All USPS locations will be particiapting in the National Food Drive, Stamp Out Hunger, which goes from May 6 to May 11. On May 11, USPS workers across the country will collect food donations of canned or non-perishable items that residents leave by mailboxes. Kendall county donations will be given to the Kendall County Food Pantry. Residents may also drop off donations to their local post office during the week. Traughber Junior High students collected so many items that Kendall County Food Pantry sent a truck to collect it all.
When Traughber Junior High students decided to host a food drive to benefit the Kendall County Food Pantry, even they couldn't imagine how much they would end up collecting. "Stuff the Panther" was a food drive organized by the Traughber student council that was held over a "spirit week" on Jan. 28 - Feb. 1 and had been in planning since January. Council members reached out to all students, classrooms and even to parents and community members through the Traughber Facebook and voicemails. The students collected the following themed items each day of the week: They ended up with so many items that the Kendall County Food Pantry sent a truck on Tuesday, Feb. 5 to pick it all up. The only requirement is you must be in a Halloween costume to get a free 4"x6" portrait.
Halloween costumes can take a lot of planning, mending, crazy last-minute searching with a lot of laughs and tears all rolled up to create the most amazing costume ever. But do you ever actually take a picture of all that hard work? Now you can get a professional photo and help a local charitable organization at the same time. Oswego photographer Julie Mettler, owner of Mettler Portraits, is hosting her annual Halloween Charity Bash to benefit the Kendall County Food Pantry. A donation of canned goods, plus an appointment time, will result in a free 4”x6” photograph. Mettler said her only requirement is that everyone needs to be in costume. I know all letter carriers actually get paid by the USPS, but as shown in the logo...it's the NALC, National Association of Letter Carriers union, that is "hosting" the food drive.   more ›
