Assistant promoted for 2011-12 season
The Oswego East girls basketball program has made great strides since the school opened in 2005. Included were a 21-win season a year ago and a dedication to defense. However, it has also burned through a pair of coaches, each lasting just three years. Enter Abe Carretto. The 37-year-old spent the last three years as an assistant coach under Nate Eimer, who returned to his alma mater, West Aurora, to coach football. While some things will change under Carretto’s guidance, the Wolves’ defensive intensity won’t be one of them. "My goals as to play extremely good defense and utilize a few different offensive sets,” Carretto said. “We’re going to use a few more schemes on the defensive end. Otherwise, the team will be playing similar basketball…
Warriors established their intensity early, cruise to 51-30 regional-title win over Oswego East; sectional rematch with Benet looms.
DOWNERS GROVE – Earning a No. 2 sectional seed put a target directly on the back of Waubonsie Valley’s girls basketball heading into the postseason. And the Warriors came out with a lackluster performance in Tuesday’s win over Metea Valley in the regional semifinal. In the day between that win and Thursday’s Class 4A Downers Grove South Regional title game against Oswego East, that lack of enthusiasm was clearly addressed. The Warriors looked like a different team in their 51-30 win, advancing to the Romeoville Sectional. The Warriors scored the first seven points of the game in the opening 1 minutes 21 seconds, forcing three quick turnovers and limiting the Wolves to no shot attempts in the process. Oswego East never threatened again. “We…

The Warriors then answered by scoring the first 12 points of the fourth quarter to put the game away. It was Oswego East’s first appearance in a regional championship game. Patch’s MVP: Waubonsie Valley sophomore Gratia Brooks dominated the post, tying Becky Williford for game-high scoring honors with 13 points, on 6-for-7 shooting from the field, and helped the Warriors to a 38-29 …

Oswego East 52, Downers Grove South 48. The Wolves upset the Mustangs on Tuesday to set up Thursday's regional-title showdown with Waubonsie Valley.
DOWNERS GROVE–Oswego East’s girls basketball team seemed to have the group to reach the program’s first-ever regional title game last season. When that group fell short, and graduated six key members, coach Nate Eimer couldn’t have envisioned that this would be that season. Turns out, the Wolves proved him wrong. Oswego East sprung a 52-48 upset on the seventh-seeded hosts from Downers Grove South in the regional semifinal Tuesday to set up the Wolves’ first-ever regional title game appearance. The 10th-seeded Wolves will face second-seeded Waubonsie Valley Thursday at 7:30 p.m. “It’s unbelievable,” Eimer said. “Who would have thought that we were going to lose six seniors that played a lot last year and this group would be the one that …

It’s pretty cool.” “To score 1,000 career points midway through her junior year is really a testament to her and the players she’s played with in the past and currently,” Oswego coach Chad Pohlmann said. “She has a chance to leave her name in the record book as one of the greatest to ever play …
