No Means No: Is Jewel's Mandatory Cart-to-Car Service Too Much?

Whether you want them to or not, Jewel-Osco has implemented a new policy of following shoppers, and their carts, out to their vehicles. What do Patch readers think?

If you haven't shopped at your local Jewel-Osco grocery store in a while, be prepared for a new customer service initiative that you may, or may not, appreciate. It's called the "cart-to-car" service, according to couponsinthenews.com, and whether you want the help or not, your bagger is expected to follow you and your cart out to your vehicle. The service is mandatory, though Jewel-Osco denies it has anyting to do with keeping track of shopping carts, according to Coupons in the News. "We understand that this is a very different service and it might take our customers some time to understand that we want this to be the norm," said a Jewel customer service representative in the article. Yes, stores used to do this, past tense- but times have been changing and bottom line we still need to abide by the customers wishes and put these cart pushers to better use to hold & keep prices reasonable!!   more ›

Supervalu to Sell Jewel-Osco Stores

Deal is expected to be finalized this spring.

Jewel-Osco parent company Supervalu on Thursday announced it will sell the grocery store chain — along with its Albertsons, Acme, Shaw’s and Star Market chains — in a $3.3 billion deal. Oswego has two Jewel-Osco locations: 2540 Us Highway 30 and 3795 Orchard Road. The grocery stores, plus affiliated in-store Osco and Sav-On pharmacies, are being sold to a consortium of investors led by Cerberus Capital Management, according to the Minnesota-based Supervalu. The deal, which includes $100 million in cash and $3.2 billion in debt, is expected to close this spring, according to the Chicago Tribune. Final Twinkie Shipments May Be Coming to Oswego Area Jewel-Oscos Today

According to the Jewel-Osco Facebook page, this may be the final shipment of Twinkies in the country.

For some, the world ended not on the upcoming Dec. 21, but on the day the Twinkies disappeared. There may now be one last chance to nab a box before they’re gone for good. According to Jewel-Osco’s Facebook page, their Chicagoland locations may be receiving the last shipment ever of Twinkies, as well as Zingers, Ding Dongs and Orange Cup Cakes. They will be available starting today, Tuesday, Dec. 11 at local Jewel-Oscos while supplies last. Below is a timetable of expected delivery times to local area Jewel-Oscos in Oswego.
