Yea ...ineffectual leadership and poor management skills have hindered John Purcell. He barely made it into the top 5 and should have been booted out earlier as his soul mate Suzane Petrella was in the Primary. Purcell should think long and hard about running for Kendall County Board Chairman again later this year. And if he does, the 9 other Board Members should not vote for him and instead vote…   more ›

Letter to the Editor: Support Evelyn Maxine Givens for Kendall County Board

Send your letters to the editor to natalie.stevens@patch.com.

Dear Editor:   I am writing to ask that you to join me in supporting Evelyn Maxine Givens as your next representative for Kendall County Board. I have had the privilege and honor of knowing Evelyn her entire life and to be honest I am somewhat biased because I am her mother. Evelyn has the qualities that we look for in our representatives within our government.  Evelyn has always put people and community issues first.  When she was 10 years old she started asking me questions about quality healthcare, Childcare, jobs and the plight of the homeless.  I told her to contact her government officials.  She did exactly that and received numerous letters from various politicians including Presidents, Governors, Senators and Congressmen.  I knew …

Kendall County Board Candidates Talk Taxes

They discuss the Kendall County Property Tax Revolt's referendum on reducing levies by 20 percent.

The Kendall County Property Tax Revolt's referendum sounds like a pie-in-the-sky concept: Should every taxing body reduce its levy by 20 percent next year? Some area leaders, including Yorkville Mayor Gary Golinski, have said they can realistically reduce their levy - or the dollar amount the government seeks in property taxes - but not by 20 percent. Those behind the referendum started with a push to educate residents about their property tax bills and ended up circulating petitions to get the question on the ballot. The results are advisory and will not require government leaders to do anything. The current county board is working on the budget for the fiscal year that starts Dec. 1. Last year, County Board members didn't levy as much as…

I also voted for her. Adding an extra .75% to the current sales tax to get public transportation in Kendall County is well worth it. Every other surrounding county has public transportation. Do you shop outside of Kendall County Greg? If you do, you support the RTA in those counties. Oswego has a lower sales tax than Aurora and some other surrounding communities. Heck, if you don't like it, you …   more ›

Kendall County Board Candidates Respond to Evening Meetings Idea

Two candidates have proposed moving all county board meetings to the evening and combining some of the committees. Here's what some of their opponents said about it.

At least one Kendall County Board candidate disagrees with a proposal to move all the meetings to the evening, which Republican candidates Scott Gryder and Matthew Prochaska proposed last week. Prochaska and Gryder, both heavily involved with Kendall County Young Republicans, also suggested merging six of the committees into the board's Committee of the Whole meeting. Their proposed calendar has meetings starting at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and has each county board member serving on two or three committees. All 10 County Board seats are open in the November election, with six candidates competing for five spots in District 1 and nine candidates vying for five seats in District 2. Presently, county board members can attend two monthly board …

Prochaska, Gryder Propose New County Meeting Schedule

Two Kendall County Board candidates suggest combining board committees, moving all meetings to the evening.

In a move they believe could help modernize Kendall County government, two County Board candidates are suggesting moving meetings to the evening and posting more information on the county website. District 1 Candidate Matthew Prochaska and District 2 Candidate Scott Gryder released a plan with a proposed meeting schedule and details on combining county committees. They also suggested adding video of county meetings and a database of county expenditures to the county website. "Change is always difficult, and there will no doubt be resistance to this plan," Prochaska said in the news release. "But this is intended to be a starting point to get other board members moving towards a consensus that will help the voters and taxpayers keep a watch …

I agree with Sarah, kudos to Scott Gryder and Matt Prochaska. Streamlining the government, sounds like an excellent idea! The current system is long overdue for such changes.   more ›

Democrats Slate Two Candidates in Kendall County Elections

District 2 County Board member Elizabeth Flowers seeking re-election afterall.

Kendall County Board member Elizabeth Flowers is pursuing a spot on the November ballot after sitting out the Democratic primary. She submitted petitions necessary to be "slated" as a Democratic candidate. Slating is a process in which parties can name a candidate to run for any spots on their ticket remaining empty after the primary election. In addition to Flowers, of Montgomery, local Democrats slated Danae Iacovella of Montgomery to run against incumbent Republican Rebecca Morganegg for Kendall County Circuit Clerk. Those two candidacies can be challenged through June 11. The move leaves four Democrats and five Republicans seeking five seats for Kendall County Board District 2 in the Nov. 6 election. Independent candidates must file …

County Increases Per Diem Meeting Pay

County board members' daily pay for attending meetings will go up $5 in 2016.

Kendall County Board members voted to eliminate special stipends for two committee leaders Tuesday but gave future office-holders a small raise. The board members voted, 5-3, to increase the $85 per diem to $90 in December 2016 and to $95 in December 2020. Per diem is the pay county board members receive for each day they attend county board meetings, county board committee meetings, or meetings of organizations to which they have been appointed. Per diem pay – which county board members receive on top of health benefits, a $200 monthly salary and mileage reimbursement – has come under scrutiny lately. Finance Committee Chair Anne Vickery is reviewing her colleagues’ pay vouchers from December 2010 through February 2012 after alleging a …
