It's a historic day on the lanes as Wildcats win first sectional title and Spartans advance for first time.
JOLIET—No matter what the outcome was, history was going to be made during the Joliet West boys bowling sectional. However, Romeoville wasn’t expected to be part of it. Plainfield Central captured the program’s first sectional championship and underdog Romeoville earned a state berth for the first time in school history at the loaded meet Saturday at Town and Country Lanes. Plainfield Central, making its first trip to the state meet since 2005, rolled a 6,221 to win the sectional plaque at the 15-team tournament. Romeoville rallied from nearly 300 pins down after four games to finish second with a 6,024 pinfall. “We’re talking about Romeoville,” Romeoville coach Tony Talley said. “We were in last place every year in the conference. We took…

Romeoville places second, Plainfield Central third and Minooka fourth in action at Laraway Lanes.
NEW LENOX – Although the boys bowling program at Oswego is just three years old, the Panthers are establishing themselves as a force. For the second time in three years, Oswego won the Southwest Prairie Conference boys bowling championship. The Panthers went 7-0 during the dual-meet season and finished first or second in every game in the league tournament Saturday at Laraway Lanes. Oswego scored 132 points to win the eight-team conference title going away. “It’s truly all about the team and, today, we won it as a team,” Oswego coach Linda Keely said. “That’s been our motto all year long. We wanted to finish strong and that’s what we did.” The Panthers placed four bowlers in the top seven at the tournament. They were Mikey Preston (1,410, …

Panthers sweep defending state and Southwest Prairie Conference champion Plainfield South at Parkside Lanes.
AURORA – The Oswego boys bowling team topped off an amazing trek through the loaded Southwest Prairie Conference by sweeping Plainfield South Tuesday afternoon at Parkside Lanes. With the sweep, Oswego scored 68 out of a possible 70 points during the league’s dual-meet season. The Panthers went 20-1 in games and were unbeaten in three-game series throughout the seven-game circuit. “We got our first goal and that was to go undefeated during the conference season.” Oswego coach Linda Keely said. “Now, we’ll see what we do on Saturday (at the conference tournament). Hopefully, we’ll be ready to go.” “It’s a great accomplishment,” Oswego senior Mikey Preston said. “We have a really strong team and a really close team. Going into the season, we…

Senior leads Panthers to second-place finish in the talent-laded bowling tournament.
ROMEOVILLE—Like they did a year ago at the boys bowling state meet, seniors Kyle Anderson of Lockport and Adam Johnson of Oswego went toe-to-toe to determine the individual championship at the 5th annual Plainfield North Invite Saturday. And, like they did at the 2010 state meet, Anderson won the individual championship, while Johnson settled for runner-up. Anderson rolled a 256 in the sixth and last game to finish with a 1,487 total. Johnson posted a 1,415 six-game series and had the tournament’s high game with a 289 in game three. In the team standings, Lake Park ran away with the 28-team meet with a 6,767 pinfall. Oswego was second (6,490) and Lockport took third (6,438). Andrew (6,399) and Vernon Hills (6,291) rounded out the trophy …

Panthers overcome dry lane conditions to pick up 10 conference points; Romeoville sweeps past Plainfield East in second dual at Brunswick Zone.
Adversity was the buzz word during a pair of Southwest Prairie Conference boys bowling duals Tuesday afternoon at Brunswick Zone. Irregular oil patterns or none at all made it difficult on Oswego, Plainfield East, Plainfield North and Romeoville. Although the conditions were the same for all four teams, their averages suffered and they are used, in part, to determine all-conference selections. "The kids got down a little bit because this affects their individual averages in the conference," Oswego coach Linda Keely said. "Bowling on dry lanes like this is tough and it was hard to keep them up. They were using their spare balls in the first frame. All you can do is keep them pumped up and focused." "The sad part is their conference averages…
