Police Blotter: Vehicle Collides with Fire Hydrant

Possession of cannabis Manuel Valdez, 20, of the 100 block of Heathgate, Montgomery, was arrested at 9:13 p.m. at Washington and Harrison and charged with the possession of cannabis less than 2.5 grams, said Oswego police. No valid driver’s license Kathleen K. Vilian, 54, of the 1200 block of Andrew Street was arrested at 10:45 p.m. at Route 71 and Liberty and charged with driving without a valid license, said Oswego police. Damage to property Police responded to a report of a damage accident that occurred at 7:46 a.m. at Douglas and Barnaby. A vehicle had swerved off the road a stuck a fire hydrant, causing $1,500 in damages. Domestic battery Ronald D. Coy, 60, of the 200 block of Ashley Court, was arrested at 9:14 a.m. at his residence …

Man Charged with Aggravated Assault at Oswego Business

Carl R. Buggs brandished a screwdriver in a “threatening manner.”

Oswego police have concluded their investigation of an incident that occurred in September 2011. Carl R. Buggs, 34, of the 800 block of Gleason Ave., Aurora, has been charged with aggravated assault, a class-A misdemeanor, said Oswego police. The incident occurred in September 2011 when a male suspect entered an Oswego business in the 2500 block of Route 30 and attempted to steal alcohol. The suspect was stopped by employees and left the alcohol behind. Upon being escorted from the building, the suspect brandished a screwdriver in a “threatening manner” and then fled the area. A warrant has been issued for Buggs for $3,000 or 10 percent required to be posted. As of this time Buggs has not been taken into custody. Anyone with information …

Traffic Safety Campaign Starts Today

Police will be on the lookout for seat belt and child restraint violations.

The Oswego Police Department has received a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to coincide with the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Police will be on the lookout for seat belt and child restraint violations.  The enforcement will run from Monday, Nov. 12 through Monday, Nov. 26. Officers will be patrolling at various times throughout the period.  The department’s goal is to increase the safety of motorists traveling throughout the community.

Oswego Police Department Offers Basic Women's Self-Defense Class

Space is limited to first 16 participants.

The following is from a release provided by the Oswego Police Department: The Oswego Police Department will be offering a class on “Basic Women’s Self Defense and Awareness” on Saturday, November 17, 2012 in the downstairs training room at the Oswego Police Department at 3525 US Route 34.   The session will run from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM with a maximum of 16 participants allowed. Hit and run Oswego Police responded to a report of a hit and run that occurred at 7:40 p.m. at Oswego Village Hall. Damages are estimated at more than $1,500. The incident is under investigation. Theft A male juvenile of the 100 block of Seneca Drive, Montgomery, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. at Route 34 and Mason Square Drive and charged with retail theft, said Oswego police.
