How Much Do Educators Make At Your School?

Patch built readers a database to look up teacher and administrator salaries for the 2010-11 school year using information from the Illinois State Board of Education.

Patch built readers a database to look up teacher and administrator salaries. The data is from the Illinois State Board of Education for the 2010-11 school year. We are aware that some districts are not included in the database. Here is the ISBE explanation: "Due to technical or other reasons locally, some districts did not submit data each school year as required starting in 2010. Only data submitted via IWAS by the mandated deadline are included in this posting."

District 308 Loses Another Top Administrator

Executive director takes position with former Superintendent David Behlow.

Oswego School District 308 lost another top administrator with the resignation of John Petzke, executive director of technology. Petzke has taken the position of chief technology officer in North Shore School District 112 in Highland Park. Former District 308 Superintendent David Behlow heads up District 112. Petzke's first day on the North Shore was July 1.  Petzke joined the District 308 administrative team in 2007 as director of instructional technology. Within a year the district promoted him to oversee its entire technology department. "On behalf of the District 308 Board of Education, I would like to thank Dr. Petzke for his hard work to move the district’s technology to the level it is today," Board of Education President Bill Walsh…

New School Hours Part of Revamped Transportation Plan

Several routes eliminated as more state funding cuts loom.

Students at Oswego School District 308 elementary schools will start and end school either 10 minutes earlier or 10 minutes later next year. Staggering the start times at the schools is part of the district’s revamped 2012-13 transportation plan, which was unanimously approved by the board Monday night. The plan should save the district about $575,000 in its first year. The changes come as the state of Illinois contemplates changing the funding formula for how it reimburses local school districts for transportation costs. That change, which would be based on the number of students and miles driven, could mean the district will see about $700,000 less from the state on top about $5 million in cuts that have come in recent years. I'm going to go ahead and close the comments on this story for now. Too many people have left personal attacks, and it's just not productive anymore. There have to be ways to discuss the issues without resorting to personal attacks. Thank you.   more ›

Letter: School District 308, From Bad to Worse

Send your letter to the editor to steven.jack@patch.com

I just received my property tax bill in the mail, with another $549 dollars going to School District 308 this year. Last year the increase was $800. This is in the worst economy in over 80 years.  There is a disconnect between the taxpayer and those providing the services.  No matter how many times we politely ask that the district refrain from increasing tax rates, they manage to ignore these requests and do whatever they want, they claim they need the money. Who doesn’t?   Oswego residents were already paying one of the highest property tax rates anywhere in the United States.  Aside from employment in the local government arena, there are very few good paying jobs here in Kendall County.  Many of us had hoped that the new SD 308 board …

State's Attorney Investigating Possible Open Meetings Violations by School Board

Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis said a school board member reported the incidents last week.

Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis has launched an investigation into possible violations of the Open Meetings Act by the Oswego School District 308 board. Weis said Monday morning he was contacted last week by phone by a member of the school board who wanted to report the possible violations stemming from unrecorded closed session meetings from April 14, 16, 19, 20, and 21. Weis would not say which member contacted him, but revealed the school board followed up with a letter Friday asking for an investigation. Weis said one member of the public had also contacted his office about the violations. “It’s a little unusual to have the government body actually be the one to contact us in something like this,” Weis said. School Board …

"Weis would not say which member contacted him, but revealed the school board followed up with a letter Friday asking for an investigation" This statement has been bothering me a little bit. I don't understand how the the School Board can issue a letter asking for an investigation without a public meeting? Doesn't this require the members of the school board to meet (electronically, by phone etc…   more ›
