Police at Plank Junior High Tuesday Afternoon

Situation was for a single student, no cause for alarm.

For anyone who saw police cars and emergency vehicles in the Plank Junior High parking lot around 3 p.m., Oswego Police say there is no cause for alarm. A call went out on the scanner for a student that was threatening to harm themself in the school office. As standard procedure, police respond to the scene to make sure the student safely boarded an ambulance and was brought to a local hospital for evaluation, said police spokesman Rob Sherwood.

Oswego Wrestling Teams Collecting Toys for 'Toys for Tots' Program

Free admission to all those who donate toys to the upcoming wrestling match.

Oswego's wrestling teams are taking donations for the Toys for Tots program during their Dec. 6 match at Oswego High School. Calling it “Grappler’s For a Cause Toy Drive”, wrestling teams are accepting new, unwrapped toys, which will go to an area family in need for the holiday season. This is the third time the teams have participated in the toy drive. Plank Jr. High Student Still Missing After Four Days

No new updates regarding 13-year-old Reyna Martinez's whereabouts, said the Kendall County Sheriff's office.

Reyna Martinez, a 13-year-old Boulder Hill girl, is still missing after four days, the Kendall County Sheriff's office confirmed Wednesday afternoon.  Detective Sergeant Joe Jasnosz of the Kendall County Sheriff's office said Reyna was last seen Sunday morning at her home in the 0-100 block of Long Beach Road.  According to a family member, the Plank Junior High student has deleted all of her family from her Facebook account.  She has friends in Oswego, Montgomery and Plainfield, the family member said.  Reyna was last seen wearing a black tank top, white Abercrombie hooded jacket, blue jeans, and black Converse shoes with a pink near the laces.  Jasnosz confirmed that she is still missing and that foul play is not suspected. District 308 School Board Hires 6 Administrators

Board working to replace spring/summer resignations.

Oswego School District 308 has made a dent in replacing several administrators who have left the district in the past few months. The School Board unanimously approved the hiring of six administrators at a special meeting Monday night, including a new director of business services and a principal for Plank Junior High. Sharon Hassberger takes over the business services position left vacant by Angie Smith, who left the district for Plainfield Consolidated Unit School District 202. Hassberger comes to District 308 from Big Hollow School District in Ingleside, where she served as business manager. District 308 Assistant Principal Hired in Wheaton

Rachel Bednar, assistant principal of Plank Junior High School, has been hired as the new principal of Edison Middle School in Wheaton.

The Wheaton Warrenville Community Unit School District 200 Board of Education appointed Rachel Bednar, assistant principal of Plank Junior High School, as new principal of Edison Middle School at its meeting Wednesday night. Though District 308 has not issued a press release on Bednar's exit, Human Resources Director Kritsy Kuntz confirmed it Thursday. Bednar has been with District 308 since 2000. She has been the assistant principal at Plank for the past four years, and served as the director of the Learning Resource Center at Oswego High School from 2004 to 2008. Prior to that, she was the director of the Learning Resource Center at Bednarcik Junior High School from 2002-2004, and she taught language arts and reading in Oswego and …

Oswego Teacher Nominated for Our Town, Our Heroes Award

Vote through March 19 for Plank Junior High staffer.

Oswego resident Carrie Quinn is one of four finalists selected for General Motors’ Our Town, Our Heroes program due to her special education work at Plank Junior High School. Plank Students Charged with Battery After Fight

Fight breaks out after taunts over text and Facebook.

Two Plank Junior High students were charged with battery at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday after a fight with another student at the school. The students, one a 12-year-old girl and the other a 13-year-old girl, got into a argument with another student over text messages and postings left on Facebook, according to Rob Sherwood, Oswego police media relations officer. The victim began defending herself against one of the girls and the other jumped in shortly after, Sherwood said. The victim was injured, but Sherwood said he was unsure whether she received treatment. The other two were released to a parent, Sherwood said.
