Students asked to stay in classrooms while classmate calmed.
Prairie Point Elementary School was put on a “soft lockdown” at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday. According to District 308 spokeswoman Kristine Liptrot, a student began running through the halls of the school and eventually locked him or herself in a bathroom. In order to calm the student, the school was put on “soft lockdown,” which means students were not allowed to leave their classrooms. The lockdown lasted for about 20 minutes. No one was injured during the incident, and police were not called, Liptrot said. Dismissal of half-day kindergartners was delayed slightly by the incident, Liptrot said.
