Clues will start being released today, May 3 with six in total. The winner receives $250.
Want to go on a treasure hunt? Oswego doesn't have one of those, but the Medallion Hunt is pretty close. The event returns after a six-year hiatus for the 25th anniversary of PrairieFest, put on by the Oswegoland Park District from June 13- June 16. The Medallion hunt starts on Friday, May 3 in which a clue will be released to lead you to the location of the medallion. Six weekly clues will be released, all requiring different methods - from code cracking, deduction, trivia and more - to solve. The clues will be released on the PrairieFest Facebook page, the official PrairieFest website, on Twitter at @PFestPrairiedog, at any Oswegoland Park District facilities, and announced on WSPY at 1:25pm. Editor's Note: The following is from a press release issued by the Oswegoland Park District: For as long as anyone can remember, Father’s Day weekend has meant a hometown festival around here. Known originally as Oswego Days, the event began as a Jaycee fund raising carnival in the early ‘60’s. In the following years, the Oswego Business Association added sidewalk sales, vendors, and a street dance. The last Oswego Days was held in 1987, and in 1988 there wasn’t a festival in Oswego. Responding to the need for a community celebration, the Oswegoland Park District took over coordination of the event in 1988, renaming it PrairieFest. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Oswegoland Park District’s PrairieFest. Free gate admission, …

Park Board gets recap of this summer’s PrairieFest
The 24th annual PrairieFest celebration held over three days in June saw a profit and revenue increase from last year. In a report to Park Board Commisisoners, Special Events Supervisor Kristie Vest said the 2013 PrairieFest saw revenue increase $2,681 from last year. The late start of the festival on Friday did impact revenue, particularly in beverage sales. Vest wrote that due to the weather conditions of the weekend – 100 plus temperatures and a forecast of afternoon rain – they were unable to recoup that loss. However, by increasing their Title Sponsors by one and doubling the Millennium Sponsors to six the Park District was able to make up for the shortfall in carnival and beverage sales. Sponsorship revenue in 2012 increased by $10,…

Someone cut wires powering Windy City Amusements' carnival rides during PrairieFest this year. The company is offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
If you know who cut the wires powering Windy City Amusements’ rides during PrairieFest in Oswego this year, there could be $10,000 in it for you if you tell the police. Sometime between 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, and 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, someone cut copper cables leading from the rides to the generators in three places, according to Oswego police. Windy City employees discovered the damage Friday morning, and were delayed in opening the carnival. The vandalism caused $30,000 in damage, police said. The company has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case, police said. Anyone with info is asked to call Kendall County CrimeStoppers at 630-553-5999. Over 200 people graciously donated their time to volunteer at PrairieFest this weekend and we cannot thank them enough! This festival is possible because of all of the amazing students, couples, individuals, families, and community groups (like the OEHS National Honor Society, Wheatland Salem Church, and Source Church) who join us each Father’s Day weekend. They sweat the small stuff, so you don’t have to. This sea of volunteers in blue shirts helped you park, shuttled you to your destination, greeted you as you arrived, and cleaned up behind you. They poured your beer, lined up your parade, and kept you on track during your race. They showed up early and stayed late. They worked in the sunshine and they worked in the pouring rain. And …
Kristie Vest, special events coordinator with the Oswegoland Park District, has some thank yous to give out.

“10 days until PrairieFest, Mom.” These were words out of my son’s mouth on his first day of summer. He had counted down to the last day of school for a month, and a new countdown had begun. For him, PrairieFest is a mark of the seasons, just like the end of school. PrairieFest is woven into the fabric of this town. 28 different events were hosted by 28 different community groups in four days. That number doesn’t include the Boy Scouts selling their hot dogs, the 18 groups on the community booth line, or the 65 parade entries who entertained those along the village streets Sunday. The support from our community businesses allows the festival to have so much entertainment and music free of any admission fees. We are grateful to our …
