Editor’s Note: The following is taken from a press release issued by the Oswego Police Department: The Oswego Police Department recently concluded their extra traffic enforcement detail, which was funded through a Step Grant provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The enforcement period, which was conducted between Nov. 12 and Nov. 25 focused on the use of seat belts and child restraints. Police wrote citations for the following violations: Oswego Police will continue to apply grants to fund extra patrols, which assist in providing for the safety of those traveling throughout the village.

In Illinois 1,363 persons were killed in 1,233 fatal crashed in 2005. In 2005 there were 121,670 persons injured in crashes. The cost per death in 2005 was $1,150,000 and the cost per nonfatal disabling injury was $60,500. Many lives will be saved by changing public attitudes regarding the non-use of safety belts and child safety seats. Police will be on the lookout for seat belt and child restraint violations.
The Oswego Police Department has received a Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to coincide with the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Police will be on the lookout for seat belt and child restraint violations. The enforcement will run from Monday, Nov. 12 through Monday, Nov. 26. Officers will be patrolling at various times throughout the period. The department’s goal is to increase the safety of motorists traveling throughout the community.
