Incumbents Judy Sollinger and Scott Volpe will return for another four-year term and will be joined by newcomer Pam Parr.
The Oswego Village Board of Trustees will see one new face in the spring. Pam Parr, a management consultant and trainer at Face to Face Communications who ran on a Pro-Oswego, Pro-business platform, will join incumbents Scott Volpe and Judy Sollinger after the three received the highest unofficial vote totals in the 2013 election. Three challengers -- Ryan Kauffman, Scott Finkenbinder and Ken Duda -- and one incumbent -- Jeff Lawson -- were not elected to the board. Jeff Lawson, who works for Costco Wholesale, has served as a village trustee since May 2009. View all of the final vote totals for all Village races here. ----- Read:

Oswego East High School senior Giselle Poss was honored at Oswego Village Hall for her accomplishment in girls bowling. Poss earned the title of girls bowling state champion at the IHSA State Bowling Tournament held in early February. Village mayor Brian LeClercq presented Poss with a street sign that will be displayed in the coming weeks on Oswego signposts upon entering the Village. Trustee Tony Giles, a social studies teacher at Oswego High School who taught Poss for one semester, presented her with a certificate. Poss will be going to Vanderbilt next year, which has a NCAA Division 1 girls bowling team.

Trader Joe's, Costco, Hobby Lobby, light industrial and commercial and many more are on the list that the Village of Oswego hopes to attract to build in Oswego.
Could a Trader Joe's be in the Village of Oswego's future? Quite possibly. Trader Joe's, Costco, Hobby Lobby are just a few of the more than 100 businesses and light industries the Village of Oswego plans to approach in the coming months. "Based on the market for Oswego we came up with some categories and businesses," said economic development director Vijay Gadde. Gadde and village staff will be attending ICSC RECon in May - a trade show of over 30,000 people. For two and a half days Gadde will meet with dozens of retailers and developers to entice them to come to Oswego. "These are targets we think the community really wants," said village administrator Steve Jones. He said there were a number of businesses that don't know enough about …

The festival held at Prairie Point Park will celebrate the diversity of music, food and art.
Didn't get enough music and food at Prairiefest? There might be a new option coming this summer to Oswego called Beats and Eats, an all-day outdoor concert. Community relations manager Michele Brown said at Tuesday night's Village Board meeting the festival would focus on all genres of music and would feature up and coming artists from both around the area and the region. "We hope to reach a demographic we feel is not being met with any of our current events," said Brown. The festival was brought to the Village by Oswego businessman and resident Macey Brooks with the idea to celebrate diversity through music, art and food. "We felt [the festival] was a good fit for our community," said Brown. "It would help attract new people to the …

We are voting for Judy Sollinger, Pam Parr, and Ryan Kauffman for Oswego trustees who will energize Oswego’s economy by making decisions that will move us forward instead of stagnation. A couple of men running for re-election are costing us money and our future. They malign Pam Parr for working with Trustee Gail Johnson in Face to Face Communications. That rings as a winning combination to us, but is unfamiliar to the men’s one way communication – their way or the highway. We observed a couple years ago as over 100 businesses, school, park, and fire districts, library, township, and county members pled with them to set up a TIF for Alexander Lumber to no avail. Communities including Aurora, Montgomery, and Yorkville are building for …

Patch has the local gardening centers in Oswego that should get you started.
Yesterday was the first day of Spring, even though the weather certainly does not feel like it. Despite the cold, many gardeners are already planning out their garden and are preparing to start to turn dirt in the coming weeks. So, it's time to begin to plan where you can get your gardening supplies. Sometimes, you need to go to a place that specializes in gardening so you can get all your supplies in one place. In Oswego, Magical Garden Center has been in business since 2004. They carry not only plant materials but also have staff to give advice or help with landscape design. Good. I'm glad to see a more "pro-oswego" mindset in the Oswego board. I believe the no-incentive/anti-business reputation of the previous board, plus the bone headed decision to abolish the OEDC were mistakes that finally caught up with Oswego. Big businesses looking to locate here expect incentives, and all the board has to do, is be able to perform or understand a proper cost benefit analysis…   more ›
