Obituary: In Loving Memory of Dawn Brown

Memorials may be directed in Dawn’s memory to the Dawn Brown Educational Scholarship Fund.

Dawn Renee Brown, age 44, of Big Rock, IL died suddenly on Monday, November 12, 2012 at her residence.  She was born August 1, 1968 in Aurora, IL.        Dawn attended the English Congregational United Church of Christ in Big Rock, IL.    She had worked at Nicor in Aurora, IL, Surplus Line Association in Chicago, IL and was a paramedic/firefighter with the Big Rock Fire Protection District in Big Rock, IL since 2003 and the Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District in Yorkville, IL since 2007.  Dawn is survived by her husband Robert D. UPDATE: Firefighter Died of Attack From Her Own Dog

Dawn Brown was home alone at the time of the attack. Here are more details.

Editor's note: This story was updated Wednesday evening to include more information about why the Browns took in the dog. A 44-year-old firefighter from western Kane County died as a result of wounds sustained from a dog attack in her home, according to police. Dawn Brown was found dead Monday inside her home, located on the 400 block of Jefferson Street in Big Rock. The Kane County Coroner completed an autopsy and determined that Brown died of attack wounds from a mastiff, one of three dogs that she and her husband own. The Browns got the mastiff about a week ago from a family member, said Lt. Pat Gengler, Kane County Sheriff's Office spokesman. The dog does not have a history of aggression. Okay. Susan get your facts straight! The dogs who killed the woman in California were Presa Canarios. Im not saying they are bad dogs but they tend to have a more aggressive temperment.
