David Sackett, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2010, and the Oswego Fire Protection District are at odds over whether Sackett needs to meet the same physical requirements as the firefighters/paramedics employed by the district.
David Sackett’s been fighting Multiple Sclerosis since 2010. Now, he’s got a new kind of battle on his hands. Sackett is trying to keep his job with the Oswego Fire Protection District after officials say he’s disobeyed direct orders regarding physicals required by firefighter/paramedics employed by the district. Sackett was put on paid administrative leave with pay in December, and on April 19, the Fire Protection Board voted unanimously to suspend Sackett without pay, pending the outcome of a termination hearing set for May 30. At issue is whether Sackett is required to follow the same set of physical guidelines put in place for the district’s firefighter/paramedics. Sackett, who worked as a firefighter/paramedic with the district since …

Kendall County Sheriff’s units, ComEd and Oswego Fire responded to scene.
Weather is reportedly to blame for the cause of a downed power line in Boulder Hill on Tuesday afternoon that resulted in a fire, according to Sheriff’s deputy Bryan Harl. “There were some lines that came down,” said Harl, at the intersection of Longbeach and Ingleshire. The lines were sparking and caused a fire in the middle of the roadway. Kendall County Sheriff’s units responded to block off the road as members of the Oswego Fire Protection District worked to get the fire under control. Harl reported that ComEd is also on scene. As of right now ComEd has not said how many homes are affected by the downed lines. Patch will update this story as more information comes in. “Elves” from all 5 junior highs turned out at Fire Station One to help sort the toys for local area Oswego families.
The Oswego Fire Protection District hosted its annual toy drive to benefit needy families in the Oswego area. The annual event, now in its sixth year, said Lt. John Cornish who is in charge of organizing the drive, rallies students from all five Oswego junior highs to collect toys to donate to the Needy Family Christmas Project run by the Oswegoland Optimist Club. For every toy donation a student receives a ticket with a chance to be an “elf” for the day and help load the toys into ambulance and fire trucks and then sort them back at the station, explained Cornish. The elves and their parents are then treated to a breakfast. Fire Marshal Alec Keenum, who made two trips to different junior highs on Thursday morning, said many of the fire …

Fire burned in wooded marshland off of Route 71 on Sunday afternoon.
A brush fire on Sunday afternoon spread a thick layer of black smoke in the rear of the 7200 block of Route 71, said the Oswego Fire Protection District. The OFPD was called in at 1:33 p.m. and did not manage to put the entire blaze out until about 5:00 p.m., said Battalion Chief Jeff Warren. The fire happened in the rear of the block in what Warren described as a “marshy area.” There were 10-15 acres of 8 foot-tall cattails along with the marsh, he said. Due to the climate, the fire department could not get their trucks out into the marsh and had to fight the fire with fire extinguishers that held 2.5 gallons of water. Warren thanked all of the surrounding departments for their help in fighting the fire, including Bristol-Kendall, …

Mr. Stiles, you are one vengeful man, aren't you? I will never understand your sick obsession with the OFD and spreading negativity about it, even if the negativity is false or twisted by you. You can bash the OFD all you want, they are still better people than you will ever be. I guess MEL was right, you must just be sour.   more ›
