Embattled Wass Leaves Park Board

Park Board commissioner says his resignation does not mean, "that the Park Board will be free to pursue its old wasteful spending ways without a watchdog in its house."

Effective immediately, Oswegoland Park Board commissioner Leonard Wass has handed in his resignation from the board. Wass cited issues he has with the board, namely that he believes the board puts the taxpayer's interest last and is out of touch with community interests. At November's meeting, Wass fought for a 20 percent tax levy reduction, citing examples of where cuts and possible profits could be made, again clashing with board members. Below is the full text of Wass' resignation that he delivered to the board on Thursday evening: Dear Editor:  It has been a great disappointment for me to be part of a board that puts the taxpayer’s interest last, and believes that a 20 year incumbency allows certain board members to do what ever they …

This county is all about the "good ole boy' system. Mr. Wass I appreciate you and your efforts. People evidently do not appreciate anyone being questioned. I can appreciate your peacefulness without this corrupt county breathing down your neck. Nobody wants to be questioned and many taxpayers support the "good ole boy" system. Fox River Academy Bringing Artistic Appreciation to the Community

Downtown Oswego art installation the latest project for director Karen Kulzer.

Since 2003, Karen Kulzer has worked diligently and passionately to bring art appreciation to the Oswego community. Kulzer is a director and founder of Oswego’s Fox River Academy of Music and Art. Kulzer said the founders specifically chose their Oswego location. “This community needed a community presence for art appreciation. There is a lot of work being done in the schools, but at the community level the town could use more focus," Kulzer said "One part of our mission is to improve the community’s appreciation of the arts. We also work to connect people, building relationships through music and art.” In addition to popular classes such as piano, guitar and voice, Fox River Academy (FRA) brings classes to the community like harp and oboe…

Racers Try a Triathlon in 26th Annual Park District Event

People of all ages experience Oswegoland Park District's race through Boulder Hill Sunday.

With a gunshot echoing in the air, No. 268 dove into the water and the race began. She was one of around 190 individuals and teams competing in the Oswegoland Park District’s I Tried a Triathlon through Boulder Hill Sunday. The event started with a 250-yard swim at the Civic Center pool, then a 6.5-mile bike ride and finishes with a 2.1 mile run in the area around the Civic Center. The skies hung overcast and an on and off rain soaked participants and fans alike, but the atmosphere remained cheerful. “We’re all going to get wet anyway,” said Amy Stuckey, 37, who was waiting for her turn to jump into the pool. Crowded around the pool’s edge was a wide range of competitors and talents, from those attending their first triathlon to seasoned …
