Burglary Oswego police are investigating a reported burglary that occurred at 11:50 p.m. in the 5000 block of Route 71. Cash and other monetary items were reported taken. DUI Joan E. Andersen, 74, of the 300 block of Canterbury Court, Oswego, was arrested at 5:49 p.m. at Route 30 and Douglas and charged with driving under the influence and cited for improper lane usage, said Oswego police. Counterfeit bill Oswego police are investigating the use of a counterfeit $10 bill that occurred between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. on May 13 in the 2300 block of Route 34. Deceptive practice Oswego police are investigating a reported deceptive practice that occurred on October 21, 2012 at Rand’s Hallmark. Merchandise for $111.09 was purchased with a bad check. …

As you might know, Police Week kicked off on Monday. For a little backstory, in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice during the week. The purpose of the campaign is to help save lives by cracking down on those who do not buckle up through the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The following release was issued by the Oswego Police Department: On June 12, 2013 Oswego Police Officers and department employees will be participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. The Flame of Hope eventually will make its way to Bloomington/Normal, into the Redbird Stadium for the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics Illinois State Summer Games. If an officer or department employee wishes to participate in this event, they must raise a minimum of $100. The Oswego Police Department is having the third annual “Adopt a Cop” fundraising event to support the Torch Run. The “Adopt a Cop” fundraising event begins now and will end on June 11. Retail theft Oswego police are investigating a reported retail theft of a video game system valued at $249.99 that was stolen on April 29 from a business in the 2900 block of Route 34. Burglary to motor vehicle Oswego police responded to a burglary to a motor vehicle that occured at 2:39 p.m. in the Oswego Wal-Mart parking lot. The owner of the vehicle left the windows down and someone removed currency, an iPod Touch and a cell phone. An image of the suspect is posted to this article. The following is from a release issued by the Oswego Police Department: The Oswego Police Department will be conducting traffic enforcement saturation patrols for the Oswego East High School and Oswego High School prom events being held on May 4th and 11th. These patrols will focus on safe driving practices as well as alcohol and drug related offenses. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 10,000 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes in 2010 – one every 51 minutes. The Oswego Police Department is committed to doing our part to ensure that our youth can enjoy their prom activities in a safe manner. Say you’re a student at one of Oswego 308's high schools and you witness someone taking a wallet from an unattended desk. What do you do? The Student Advisory Board would recommend that you use the Student Tip Hotline that will connect you anonymously with the Oswego Police Department. The student advisory board – made up of four students of each grade level from Oswego High School and Oswego East High School – address problems within their schools with the Oswego Police and work to find a solution. “It allows both schools direct access to the chief of police,” said Captain Jeff Burgner. “It encourages a very open dialogue and with their input it’s really taken off.” The Student Advisory Board meets at the police station twice a semester …

How many police departments does it take to catch a fleeing vehicle? In the incident involving a Woodridge man, the answer would be three. Jerry Williams Jr., 25, from Woodridge, Ill., was arrested a little after 12 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23 in the area of Route 71 and Hughes Road, and given multiple citations in the incident that involved three different police agencies, said the Kendall County Sheriff’s office At 12:10 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies were notified of a vehicle that had fled a traffic stop in Aurora by Aurora Police. The vehicle entered Kendall County where it was pursued by Oswego Police, but fled from them as well. At 12:20 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle on southbound Route 71 near Regal Oaks Court, and noted that …
