The next big winner could be drawn Saturday.
The big red Powerball rolled Wednesday night bringing the jackpot to $320 million for the Saturday, March 23 drawing. The winning numbers from Wednesday’s drawing were: 13 - 14 - 17 - 43 - 54 and the Powerball was 15. While no one won Wednesday night’s jackpot, over 68,000 Illinoisans won prizes ranging from $10,000 to $4, according to Illinois Lottery officials. While they may not have won the grand prize, a group of Churchill residents celebrated their $51 dollar win with a giant check sent to them by the Illinois Lottery and a party. Lottery ticket sales are expected to sell even faster in advance of Wednesday's $500 million Powerball Jackpot Lottery drawing.
The Illinois Lottery's Powerball jackpot is set to reach $500 million, and the tickets are selling at a "blistering" pace, according to the Chicago Tribune. About $200,000 in lottery tickets were sold in just one 30-minute period Tuesday, according to the Trib, and sales are expected to peak as the Powerball drawing draws closer. It's the largest jackpot in Powerball history. The winners would take home $327.4 million in a lump sum. No one has won the Powerball drawing in two months, and the jackpot continued to rise after strong sales, according to the Trib. Powerball is a national lottery including 42 states. The winner of a Jan. 22 $1 million Illinois Lottery Powerball prize sold at the Route 30 Jewel store in Oswego still has not claimed the prize. Mike Lange, spokesman for the Illinois Lottery, said no one has come forward, but stressed the winner still has another 51 weeks to claim it. "It's not unusual for it to take a couple of weeks for the winners to come forward," Lange said. The $122 million grand prize winning ticket from Jan. 22 was sold in New York. According the The Daily Mail newspaper in New York's Green County, that ticket was sold at a local laundromat. No one has claimed that prize either, the paper said.
