Oswego Police Chief Dwight Baird reports that Route 34 from Route 71 to Boulder Hill Pass is still closed, as is Wolf's Crossing from Route 71 to Southbury.

An earlier accident at Wolf's Crossing and Southbury did not result in any injuries, Baird said.

Baird also said he has been in contact with District 308 about getting students that are in school home today. There is a two-hour window while the rain has let up that they are working to get students home.

Down by the Fox River, Baird said homes have not been evacuated yet, but cautioned the river is still rising. Residents at the river have been using sandbags to keep flood waters at bay. Oswego Village President Brian LeClercq has been in the area and aiding residents, Baird said.

"This is not as bad as the flood of 1996 yet," Baird said. "But it's getting close."

Baird also reiterated that it's important for residents to stay off the streets until they see that waters are receding to a passable level.

10:43 a.m.

Students at Oswego 308 may leave school early so long as the school has spoken directly to a parent, said a secretary at the Oswego 308 administration center. Students that drove themsleves to school are allowed to leave on their own, but only if the school has spoken directly to a parent.

"At this time there is no decision to end school early," said the school secretary. Classes will end at the 5-hour early attendance day as originally scheduled.
