Oswego Resident and Firefighter Fills a Truck for Tornado Victims

Michael and Patty Hiemer, with the help of their subdivision, packed a truck with supplies that will be dropped off at the Oswego Fire Station.

An Oswego couple wanted to help out victims of the tornadoes that blew through parts of Illinois yesterday.

So they filled a truck.

Oswego resident and Bedford Park Fire Department firefighter/paramedic Michael Hiemer said his wife, Patty, saw a post on the Patch about the collection point for donations at the Oswego Fire Department

"We took it upon ourself to ask if anyone else in our subdivision would like to donate and I would pick it up," said Michael Hiemer, who lives in Hunt Club. He would pack his truck with the donations and take it over to the Oswego Station 1 later today.

"My truck is almost completely filled with stuff and some neighbors still to come," said Hiemer at about 1:30 p.m.

The truck has now been filled to the brim with an assortment of items that a Plainfield firefighter will be delivering tomorrow morning.

"It's amazing how people are in a time of need," said Hiemer.
